A Room of Her Own
A teenager and her mother helped shape a bedroom that feels personal now and can adapt as she grows.
Design scope: Single-bedroom redesign with bespoke furniture, a dedicated study area, a curtained sleeping space, integrated storage and a coordinated colour scheme.
A room designed around her
A Room of Her Own began with listening to both a teenager and her mother. The bedroom needed to feel personal while remaining practical as she grew. Layout, storage, colour and furniture were considered together rather than as separate purchases.
Space to study and sleep
A dedicated study area and a separate sleeping space give different activities their own place within the room. The curtain offers separation without enclosing the sleeping area behind a permanent wall. Colour across the walls and ceiling reinforces the distinction while keeping the scheme connected.
Designed and made for this room
We personally designed, built and installed the bed frame, headboard and integrated bed storage. The sleeping arrangement and storage were therefore developed as one part of the room’s layout.
We also sourced and ordered the room’s furniture, décor, lighting and fabrics, and carried out the painting. The bespoke making credit applies to the bed frame, headboard and bed storage, rather than every piece of furniture shown.
Personal now, with room to grow
The resulting design brings a study surface, curtained sleeping area and practical storage into one coordinated scheme. Caroline’s testimonial describes how listening to mother and daughter informed the balance between individuality and day-to-day use.
